China GT GTC Class: First Title for D2 Racing

Release date / 2017-05-24

The famous Taiwanese racing team D2 Racing are among the many new teams joining the new season in China GT.

D2 was founded in 1997 and is the largest Taiwanese manufacturer of high-performance shock absorbers, braking systems and pneumatic components. In 2016, D2 Racing, as a racing powerhouse, already had command of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Macau Grand Prix.

In the Beijing leg of the 2017 China GT, D2 Racing sent experienced driver Huang Hsi Chan to take on the GTC competition in a Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo. He quickly dispatched the competition and became the champion in the first round of GTC races.

During the first round, Huang Hsi Chan started the race by hovering near the front of the pack, staying close behind his opponents and making the most of any opportunity to overtake. Towards the middle of the race, it is necessary for the drivers to choose the best time to make a pit stop once the pit lane has been opened. In the China GT races, this is often the turning point in the race. At this crucial point in the race, an accident occurred, leading to the safety car being deployed. In a reversal of fortunes on the track, Huang Hsi Chan perfectly navigated all the changes on the track, steadily overtaking all the cars in front of him until he was leading the race. After leaving the pit, the car in second place tried to take on Huang Hsi Chan, but he was too quick. The safety car was deployed with approximately ten minutes of the race left until the race resumed with four minutes to spare. The two cars involved in the fight for first barely had a gap between them, but Huang Hsi Chan managed to increase the distance between them at every turn. Finally, he crossed the line to secure his position as 2017 China GT round one champion!

In round two, Huang Hsi Chan started in second. His repeated rebuffs against his competitors quickly became the focus of the race. However, towards the end of the race, he faltered during a turn, which caused him to lose points.

The racing behemoth has got off to a good start in China GT, having already secured their first win of 2017. We look forward to finding out what else they can do during the next race!
