2018 China GT Wuhan R9 Qualifying Report

CJ Huang quickest in both sessions and took GTC pole in Wednesday’s qualifying session in Wuhan. D2’s Kuo Kuo Hsin and Xtreme Motorsports’ Thomas Ashton/Lo Sze Ho topped the timesheet for GT3 and GT4 respectively.


GT3 Class

Less than half a second separated pole-man Kuo Kuo Hsin from JRM’s Min Heng and rookie Lin Nan.

Despite briefly kissing the wall in Q1, Kuo’s time continued to drop throughout the session and he put his D2 Racing AMG GT3 on pole at 01:23.008. Min Heng set the GT3 quickest lap with a time of 01:22.154 in Q1 and the JRM duo will start on the GT3 front row alongside Kuo.


GTC Class

CJ Huang lit up the timesheet again and again in both qualifying sessions, and set the overall quickest time towards the end of Q1 with a time of 1:21.398. The Taiwanese driver is also the man the beat in sectors 1 and 3, while losing out 0.26s to Dominic Ang’s Radical in sector 2.

Liu Kai put his #68 Xtreme Motorsport Radical on the front row, less than 0.8s shy of Huang’s combined lap time of 01:21.575.

R+ Racing’s Wang Tao and Zhang Dasheng placed third in today’s qualifying, ahead of a second Xtreme Motorsport Radical of Dominic Ang and Song Bo, who is in contention for the GTC championship against Huang.

GT4 Class

Thomas Ashton and Lo Sze Ho put the Xtreme Motorsports KTM to pole with an average time of 01:26.893, pipping China Equity AMR’s Jack Mitchell and Stanley Yang by 0.65s.

McLaren works driver Charlie Fagg set the GT4 benchmark towards the end of Q1 with a time of 1:25.402, 1.3s faster than the nearest rival. His teammate and championship contender David McIntyre only had limited running in Q2, as his #570 ground to a halt at the T7 runoff due to a puncture. The duo will start from third ahead of teammate Dong Liang, who is currently third in the championship standings.  

#619 of Martin Xie and Rodney Tu will start from the back.
