The new season of the 2017 China GT Championship kicked off in Beijing on 12 and 13th May. As well as the original GT3 and GTC classes, this year’s competition also features the all-new GT4 class. Xtreme Motorsports is one of the teams taking on the new class. Chen Yinian from Hong Kong will partner Glen Wood in a KTM X-Bow GT4 to take on the challenge.
In the first round, the Xtreme Motorsports KTM X-Bow GT4 shot away from their third place starting position and immediately went on the offensive. The battle for the top three positions was the focal point during the first part of the race, with only a tiny gap separating the top three, all of whom kept overtaking one another. Chen Yinian and Glen Wood seized the fleeting opportunity to overtake the car in front during a turn, with their brilliant overtaking manoeuvre becoming the highlight of the first half of the race. Finally, after a string of intense clashes, the first round of the GT4 class ended with the KTM X-Bow GT4 shooting past the finish line in second place to thunderous applause from the crowd.
In the second round, the KTM X-Bow GT4 once again went on the attack from the very first moments of the race. The fierce nature of the race eventually started to take its toll on the cars, even causing the safety car to be dispatched. Chen Yinian and Glen Wood made full use of the agility of the KTM X-Bow GT4 when overtaking other cars many times during the nail-biting race, making them the star of the show as the race drew to a close.
Xtreme Motorsports walked away from the Beijing race weekend with two second place finishes in the GT4 class, leaving everyone wondering what else the KTM X-Bow GT4 can really do.
